Snavely, Charlene A. Lapp Frable
February 3, 1954 - July 11, 2023

Charlene A. Snavely, 69, of Ephrata, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy after a courageous battle with cancer. Raised in Akron, Charlene was the daughter of the late Melvin & Virginia (Mohler) Lapp.

Charlene was a graduate of Ephrata High School, class of 1972. She was married to the late Jeffrey A. Frable for 27 years and later married Robert Snavely. She spent her lifetime career as an LPN, advocating for patients, always going above and beyond to create comfort and promote wellness. For over 12 years she worked at Ephrata Community OB/GYN. She was an awesome mom, loving her sons the same yet understanding and nurturing their differences. She raised her boys to have faith and a strong work ethic. Charlene was driven and independent, practically unstoppable. She loved being a grandma and adored her grandkids. Charlene created family memories and cherished traditions with annual trips to Ship Bottom, NJ where the entire family stayed in the same house for generations. She was deeply involved in the life events and sports of her children and grandchildren. She was their biggest fan!

Charlene is survived by two sons, Jason T. Frable (Kimberly) of Medford, NJ and Shane Frable of Reinholds; two grandchildren, Kayah Frable and Chase Frable; two brothers, Dennis (Connie) Lapp of Akron and Dean (Lori) Lapp of State College; dear friend Deb Hall; and her canine companion, Monet.

A viewing will be held on Sat., July 22nd from 11a.m. to 12p.m. at the Akron Mennonite Church, 1311 Diamond St., Akron, PA 17501. A funeral service will begin at 12p.m. in church. Interment will immediately follow in Wolf Cemetery, Akron.

Snyder, John E. "Snap"
May 30, 1930 - February 8, 2023

John E. "Snap" Snyder, Jr., 92, of Ephrata, died Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Fairmount Homes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary S. (Horning) Snyder in 2019. Born in Earl Twp., he was the son of the late John E. and Katie M. (Nolt) Snyder.

Snap was last employed as the service manager for the former Horning Dodge, where his career spanned about 40 years. He and Mary also owned and operated Sunshine Center Laundromat in New Holland.

He was a member of Indiantown Mennonite Church where he served many years as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He and Mary served his 1-W service at Connecticut State Hospital in Middletown. They were avid travelers and he enjoyed hunting.

Surviving are two sons: Richard married to Kori (Zellers) Snyder, Villanova and Gary married to Dana (Brookmyer) Snyder, Blue Ball, eight grandchildren: Peter, Nathan, Jordan, Emily, Reagan, Adam, Erin and Cory and a great-granddaughter Abigail.

He was preceded in death by six siblings: Elizabeth Zimmerman, Esther Zimmerman, Laura Musser, Anna Mary Snyder, Kathryn Snyder, and Elam Snyder.

His funeral will be held on Monday, February 13, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Indiantown Mennonite Church, 255 Indiantown Rd., Ephrata. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 12:30 2:30 p.m. at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland and at the church on Monday from 9 10 a.m. Kindly omit flowers.

Stalter, Marion Schaefer
April 1, 1924 - July 25, 2023

Marion Stalter, 99, of Goshen, formally residing in Lowville, NY and Flanagan, IL, passed away on July 25, 2023. She was born April 1, 1924 to William and Katherine (Lehman) Schaefer, in Castorland, NY.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Stalter, sons, Bob and Gregg(Kay), and great grandson, Mitchell Lasley. 5 brothers and their wives, Stanley and Martha, John and Gladys, Harold and Olwyn, Sidney and Martha, Donald and Ilona. 2 sisters and their husbands, Doris and Donald Jantzi, Katherine and Leon Martin. 2 nieces, Gail Lyndaker(Paul), and Chris Schaefer(Bill).

She is survived by daughter, Fern McFadden(Bob) of Fort Wayne, daughter-in-law, Kay Hershberger(Gregg) of Goshen, granddaughters, Shanna Lasley(Neil) of NC, Mara Maynard(Chris) of MI, step grandson, Chad of NC, and 5 great grandchildren, as well as, many nieces and nephews.

Marion was an employee of the US Postal Service for 33 years, retiring in 1986. Post retirement she was employed part time by Upstate Cerebral Palsy, prompted by her son Bob, who was inflicted by the disease at birth.

Marion, fondly referred to as Mert, by family and friends, had a need for speed, always the pedal to the metal. Consequently, she volunteered as an EMT driver, for Lewis County Search and Rescue, Lowville, NY, for 3 years. She volunteered for many organizations throughout her life, including her church life. She was a member of Goshen College Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN.
Recently, she resided in Greencroft Community Healthcare, Goshen, IN, for the past 6 years.
We will miss Mert, her love, shenanigans, and little girl giggle.

A Scattering of Ashes service will be held, date to be determined.

Stauffer, Beatrice R.
August 28, 1931 - August 4, 2023

Beatrice R. Stauffer, 91, of 1307 Apple St., Ephrata, died Friday, August 4, 2023, at Lincoln Christian Home.

Born in Ephrata Twp., she was the daughter of the late David and Mary (Reich) Stauffer.

Beatrice was a homemaker, caregiver, and babysitter of many. She was a member of Martindale Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

Surviving is a brother, Lloyd R. Stauffer, Dundee, NY and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by 12 siblings: Irvin, Charles, Earl, Paul, Horace, Norman, and David Stauffer, Margaret Shirk, Vera, Verna, Elsie and Mary Stauffer.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at Martindale Mennonite Church with Bishop Amos G. Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at Lincoln Christian Home on Monday (TONIGHT) from 5 to 8 p.m. Kindly omit flowers. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill, is in charge of arrangements.

Stauffer, Corena Alta Yoder
August 17, 1930 - March 22, 2023

Corena Alta (Yoder) Stauffer, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother left us to be with Jesus on March 22, 2023 at the farm in Conestoga, where she lived for much of her adult life.

She was born August 17, 1930 in Mifflin County to Harry and Carrie Yoder, a forest ranger/farming couple. While she was a young girl, her father had been instrumental in establishing a mission church (Otelia Mennonite) and her faith was an important lifelong component of her life. When she was 15 years old, she transferred her studies and love of learning to Lancaster Mennonite School, where she developed lifelong friendships and eventually met the love of her life, H. Wilmer Stauffer. She and her husband raised their 6 children on their dairy farm in Conestoga. They were married for more than 65 years until the death of Wilmer on February 23, 2015. After the death of her husband, she moved back to the farm in Conestoga with her daughter and family where she enjoyed the support of her family in an intergenerational setting. She has cherished being with her extended family, whether watching the energetic antics of the younger generation, making braided rugs, watching birds at her bird feeder, growing flowers, or playing a competitive game of Scrabble or Rummikub. She had a long tradition of writing letters, sometimes closing with the Latin phrase, "Tempus fugit", (time flies).

She is survived by her six children: Miriam (Michael) Szelistowski, Baltimore, MD; Harold Wilmer (Janet) Stauffer, Washington Boro, PA; Joyce Stauffer, Lititz, PA; John (Cathy) Stauffer, Lititz, PA; Jim (Janet) Stauffer, Lebanon, PA; Sharon (John) Reeser, Conestoga, PA.

Also surviving is a brother, Daniel (Alice) Yoder. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will take place at Rawlinsville Mennonite Church, 838 Susquehannock Dr., Holtwood, PA 17532, where she was a member, on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Viewings will be held at the church on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm and also on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Dewald Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Quarryville.

Stauffer, Eli Brubacher
December 25, 1931 - March 26, 2023

Eli Brubacher Stauffer, 91, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Fairmount Homes Inc.

He was born in Ephrata to the late Eli S. and Mary (Brubacher) Stauffer and was the husband of Ruth H. (Martin) Stauffer with whom he shared 71 years of marriage.

Eli was a member of Metzler Mennonite Church. During his working years, he was a product test technician at Ford New Holland. He enjoyed working on New Holland garden tractors, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and traveling. Eli and Ruth had volunteered with the Friendship Community for 25 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Gary L., husband of Brenda Stauffer, Ronald M., husband of Judi Stauffer, Dennis M., husband of Sharon Stauffer; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Sarah, wife of the late Phares Stauffer.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by ten siblings.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2023, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Metzler Mennonite Church, 515 W. Metzler Rd., Ephrata. An additional viewing will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the church, followed by his funeral service at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Scott Garman officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.

Stauffer, Marvin Weaver
October 5, 1948 - February 25, 2023

Marvin Weaver Stauffer, 74, of Martindale, passed away on February 25, 2023 in his residence.

Born in Martindale, he was the son of the late Charles Reich and Ellen M. (Weaver) Stauffer.

He was the loving husband of Elsie (Gehman)* Stauffer, [sic] with whom he married on July 8, 1967 and shared fifty five years of marriage.

He was a member of Shiloh Mennonite Church and was employed by New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. for forty-two years as a heavy equipment operator. He was a past Fire Chief from 1978-1991 for Martindale Fire Company where he was a lifetime member, joining in 1967. He enjoyed hunting and had been very involved in the prison ministry with his wife in Alabama for twenty years and in Berks County for fifteen years.

Marvin is survived by his wife and his children: Duane E. husband of Becky (Weber) Stauffer, Jay L. husband of Jennifer (Groff) Stauffer, Gerald L. husband of Ashlee (Simpson) Stauffer and Mary B. wife of Christopher Phan. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and his sister-in-law,Verna Stauffer.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings: Erma wife of Barry Quigley and Leon Stauffer.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Martindale Mennonite Church, 171 Hurst Road, Ephrata, PA 17522 with Pastor Dave Weber officiating. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Friday, March 3, 2023 for one hour prior to the time of service in the church. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Stauffer, Robert M.
January 28, 1954 - June 19, 2023

Robert M. Stauffer, 69, of New Holland, died Monday, June 19, 2023, at Lancaster General Hospital following an 11 year battle with multiple myeloma. His wife of 49 years, Grace W. (Martin) Stauffer, survives.

Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late William W. and Elva (Martin) Stauffer.

He had been a self-employed painter for many years.

A member of Martindale Mennonite Church, he served as the cemetery caretaker for many years. He enjoyed trains and being with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his step-mother, Mary M. Stauffer of Ephrata, six children and 26 grandchildren: Lee (Sarah) Stauffer, New Holland, and their children Daniel, David, Joshua, Timothy, Samuel, Caleb, Mary Grace, Sarah Beth; Roger (Diane) Stauffer of Ephrata, and their children Travis (Stacey), Dustyn (Abigail), Connor; Jay (Lydia) Stauffer, Missouri and their children, Austin, Jessica (Shawn) Ramer, Jennifer (Jay) Martin, Rosalyn (Anthony) Martin, Logan, Nyla; Sheila (John) Sauder of Denver and their son Tristan; Sandra (Duane) Burkholder of New Holland and their children, Lincoln, Diesel, Colston, Roman (deceased), Finnley, Monroe; Lisa (Kendall) Zimmerman of Lititz and their children Charlotte, Evie, Caroline, and three siblings: Marlene (Titus) Brubacker, Clyde (Priscilla) Stauffer, Delores (Ray) Brubacker.

In addition to his parents and grandson, he was preceded in death by a stepmother, Minnie Stauffer and two infant siblings, Minerva and Charles.

His funeral will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Martindale Mennonite Church, 171 Hurst Rd., Ephrata with Bishop Darryl Weaver, Dave Sensenig, and Jerry Hurst officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. Steiner, Clifford Allen
January 5, 1959 - May 1, 2023

Clifford Allen Steiner, 64, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, May 1, 2023.

He was born near Dalton, Ohio, on January 5, 1959 to the late Samuel and Orpha (Neuenschwander) Steiner.

He was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, Denise (Good). They shared over 31 years of married life. He is also survived by children Dawnita of Ripley, NY; Kristal, and Kenton both of the home; Larissa (Nolan) Martin of Ashland, OH; Sherri, and Bradley, also of the home.

He was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, Angela, in 1993. Also preceding him were brothers John Steiner and Oris Steiner and a sister Mary Ann Steiner.

He will be remembered and missed by brothers Wilbur (Ann) of Smithville, OH; Irvin (Sally) of Richland, PA; Vilas of Dalton, OH; Maynard (Cheryl) of Dalton, OH; and Olen (Garneta) of Apple Creek, OH; sisters Miriam, Arlene, and Esther all of Dalton, OH; brother-in-law James Steiner of Smithville, OH; sister-in-law Dorothy Steiner of Wooster, OH; and many nieces and nephews.

He accepted Christ in his youth and attended Valley View Mennonite Church. He cared deeply for his family and especially enjoyed listening to his family sing and helping along. He always showed a special interest in each of his children’s lives. He lived on the family farm all his life and had a passion for cows and farming. He also enjoyed his chores and pets. He often enjoyed walks and rides around the community.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 5 at 10 a.m. at the East Union Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the County Line Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, May 4 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the East Union Mennonite Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Mennonite Church, P.O. Box 697, San Andreas, CA 95249, designated to the Ukrainian Crisis Fund. Spidell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Stichter, Fannie Mae Kuhns
December 22, 1937 - March 14, 2023

Fannie Mae Stichter, age 85, formerly of Wakarusa, IN, passed into Heaven at 6 pm on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart, IN. Fannie Mae was born on December 22, 1937 in Nappanee, IN to Menno and Fannie (Miller) Kuhns.

On April 9, 1961 she married Ralph Lowell Stichter at North Main Street Mennonite Church in Nappanee. Fannie Mae and Ralph made their home in Wakarusa until moving to Hubbard Hill. They attended North Main Street Mennonite Church for many years and Fannie Mae was active in the kitchen and served as a Sunday School teacher. Later in life, Fannie Mae and Ralph attended Olive Mennonite Church in Elkhart.

Fannie Mae is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, Ralph Stichter; 4 children: Ron (Cheryl) Stichter, Joan (Randy) Rhoade, Beth (Craig) Birky, and Jim (Kathy) Stichter; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and 1 brother, Bill (Carol) Kuhns.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings: Elizabeth Schrock, Martha Kuhns, Alice Yoder, Edna Yoder, Leona Stutzman, Albert Kuhns, John Kuhns, Obie Kuhns, Menno Kuhns, and Mac Kuhns.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa, IN. A funeral service will begin at 3:30 pm at Olive Mennonite Church, Elkhart, IN with burial to follow in Olive West Cemetery. Pastor Jason Ramer of Olive Mennonite Church will officiate.

Stichter, Ralph Lowell
July 30, 1934 - August 5, 2023

Ralph Lowell Stichter, age 89, formerly of Wakarusa, IN, passed away at 10 pm on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart, IN. Ralph was born on July 30, 1934 in Hopedale, IL to Gordan and Esther (Good) Stichter. He was a 1952 graduate of Bremen High School. On April 9, 1961 he married Fannie Mae Kuhns at North Main Street Mennonite Church in Nappanee, IN. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2023 after almost 62 years of marriage.

Ralph and Fannie Mae made their home in Wakarusa until moving to Hubbard Hill. They attended North Main Street Mennonite Church for many years and Ralph served on the Church Board and was a Sunday School teacher. More recently they attended Olive Mennonite Church. When Ralph was younger, he served a few years in the mission field in Peru, before returning stateside and working as a carpenter. Ralph worked for many years in product development at Holiday Rambler and later Utilimaster, in Wakarusa.

Ralph is survived by his 4 children: Ron (Cheryl) Stichter of Bremen, Joan (Randy) Rhoade of Goshen, Beth (Craig) Birky of Kouts, IN, and Jim (Kathy) Stichter of Wakarusa; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters: Carolyn (Toby) Graber of Spooner, WI and Loreene (Elwood) Schrock of Virginia.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and 4 brothers: Don, Leonard, Loren and Ken Stichter.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa, IN. A funeral service will then be held at 5 pm Tuesday at the Olive Mennonite Church. Pastor Jason Ramer of Olive Mennonite Church will officiate and burial will be at Olive West Cemetery, Elkhart. Memorial contributions may be given in Ralph’s name to Hubbard Hill Estates.

Stoltzfus, Eli
April 23, 1927 - September 4, 2023

Eli Stoltzfus, 96, of Goshen died Monday, September 4, 2023 at Greencroft Healthcare.

He was born April 23, 1927 in Middlebury to Jacob and Lydia (Bontreger) Stoltzfus.

On May 10, 1951, he married Paula F. Handrich. She died July 25, 2023.

Survivors include a son, Eric (Ruth) Stoltzfus of Goshen; a daughter, Robin Beachy of Thame, England; six grandchildren, Heidi (Michael) Stoltzfus McHugh, Gretchen (Jon) Stoltzfus Paulovich, and Eliya, Nicolas, Yosef and Alex Beachy; five great grandchildren; a brother, Lee (Walda) Stoltzfus of Muskegon, Michigan; and two sisters, Katie Burkholder of Kentucky, and Betsy Oaks of Fairview, Michigan.

Along with his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bethany Stoltzfus.

Eli was a registered nurse spending most of his working career in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Service was important to Eli and Paula. They spent much of their adult life in lay ministry in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. After Eli’s retirement, they served at various locations and times all over the U.S. They volunteered with Mennonite Disaster Service many times, and Eli specifically served with MDS in St. Croix after hurricane Hugo. They were the first volunteers for the SOOP program (Service Opportunities with Our Partners) with Mennonite Mission Network. Eli also volunteered in the county court system as an advocate.

A memorial service will be held in the Koinonia Room at College Mennonite Church at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2023 followed by a time of fellowship. Burial will be in Fairview, Michigan at a later date.

Stoltzfus, Paula F. Handrich
March 5, 1927 - July 25, 2023

Paula F. Stoltzfus, 96, of Goshen passed away, Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Greencroft Healthcare.

She was born March 5, 1927, in Mio, Michigan to William and Marie (Troyer) Handrich.

On May 10, 1951, she married Eli Stoltzfus.

He survives along with a son, Eric (Ruth) Stoltzfus of Goshen; a daughter, Robin Beachy of Thame, England; six grandchildren, Heidi (Michael) Stoltzfus McHugh, Gretchen (Jon) Stoltzfus Paulovich, and Eliya, Nicholas, Yosef and Alex Beachy; and five great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Bethany Stoltzfus; and four siblings, Donna, Vergil, Rhoda, and John.

Paula was an accomplished quilter. Her original quilts can be found in homes all over the U.S. and England.

Service was important to Eli and Paula. They spent much of their adult life in lay ministry in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. After Eli’s retirement, they served at various locations and times all over the U.S. She was a long-time hospice volunteer in Elkhart and Goshen.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023 beginning at 2 p.m. at Sunnyside Mennonite Church, 23786 Sunnyside Ave., Elkhart. Becky Helmuth will officiate. A time of fellowship will follow the service.

Burial will be at a later date in Fairview, Michigan.

Stoner, Clarence B.
November 9, 1922 - February 6, 2023

Clarence B. Stoner, age 100, of Ephrata passed away peacefully on February 6, 2023, at Fairmount Homes.

Born on November 9, 1922, he was the son of the late Alvan P. and Sadie Stoner. A lifetime farmer, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 60 years Martha (Good) in 2004 and by his second wife of 13 years Irene (Martin) in 2019. As a child, Clarence was a member at Metzler's Mennonite Church, and, after moving to Jonestown, Lebanon County in 1951, he was a member at Meckville Mennonite Church. He enjoyed dairy farming. In semi-retirement, he sold Jacques Seed and bought heifers for Heifer International. Family vacations were clamming in the Delaware Bay or overnights at a mountain cabin. He enjoyed weeks in Florida each winter until health dictated otherwise. Some of his favorite times were enjoying the camaraderie of family at summer picnics and holiday dinners.

Surviving are his children: Ruth Ann (Wilmer) Ebersole, Myerstown, Marlene (Charles) Bomgardner, Annville, Wilmer (Janice), Jonestown, Alvan (Joyce), Fredericksburg, Dale (Ruth Ann), Lancaster, Nevin (Tammy), Leroy, MI, June (Lloyd) Weaver, Darby, MT, and Marilyn (Lester) Sensenig, Lewisburg; son-in-law Allen (Brenda) Martin, Jackson Center; step-children Nancy Heimbach, Linda (Smokey) Fasnacht, Carolyn (Daniel) Kopp, Lois (Jerry) Stoudt-Nendel, Cynthia (Lynn) Weaver, Betty Martin, and Dorcas Martin; 23 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and brothers Roy and Titus Stoner.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Elaine Martin, daughter-in-law Valencia, son-in-law Paul Kropf, granddaughter Sheena Stoner, grandson Lance Sensenig, and stepsons Kenneth and Clifford Martin.

There will be a viewing on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11th, at the Meckville Mennonite Church, 1020 Meckville Rd., Bethel. There will be no viewing or visitation prior to the service. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Stoner, Roy B.
June 13, 1925 - September 1, 2023

Roy B. Stoner, 98, of Lititz, died peacefully on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Landis Homes. Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Alvan P. and Sadie Burkholder Stoner. Roy was the loving husband of the late Ruth Irene Bauman Stoner who died in July of 2012 following 66 years of marriage.

A lifelong dairy farmer, Roy was the owner and operator of his own farm in Lititz. In his retirement, he was a seed corn salesman. Roy was an active and faithful member of Erb Mennonite Church, Lititz. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and in his later years he was a productive knitter, making more than 6,000 infant caps that he donated throughout the world.

Surviving are 7 children: Janet M. Stoner of Lititz, Kenneth L., Sr. husband of Ella Faye Hoover Stoner of Lititz, J. Marvin husband of Janice Groff Stoner of Manheim, Larry L. husband of Karen Bushong Stoner of Manheim, Linda J. wife of Leonard Dueck of Ephrata, Nelson R. husband of Jane Forney Stoner of Lititz, and Darlene R. wife of Henry Dueck of Belize, 19 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a brother, Titus husband of Erma Kauffman Stoner of Landisville. Preceding him in death is a brother, Clarence Stoner and a grandson-in-law, Eric Anderson.

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Roy's funeral service at Erb Mennonite Church, 567 West Lexington Road, Lititz, on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 10:00 AM. There will be a public viewing at the church on Friday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family immediately following the service at the church on Saturday morning. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the adjoining church cemetery.

Stover, Ruth Mae Hooley
September 23, 1950 ~ February 9, 2023

Funeral services for Ruth Mae Hooley Stover, 72, of Barnwell, SC will be held 10 am Monday, February 13, 2023 at the Edisto Mennonite Church, 6614 Farrells Road, Branchville, SC 29432; burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 pm to 4pm and again from 6pm to 8pm at the church on Sunday, February 12, 2023. Memorial contributions may be given to Edisto Mennonite Church care of Aden Diem 1942 Thunder Rd Olar, SC 29843. Pallbearers will be Wendell, Conrad, Dwayne and Wesley Stover, Brian Weaver and Derrick Stover.

Ruth was born in Oregon City. Oregon. Her family then relocated to Virginia where she spent most of her growing up years along with a short time in Pennsylvania. As a school teacher, she finished a 5 week school term in British Columbia and also taught school for three years at the Dohner Mennonite School.

She married James Stover on June 14, 1975. They resided in central Pennsylvania until they moved to Findley Lake, NY to assist in a church plant across the state line in North East, PA. While there she faithfully served the church taking care of many duties as the Deacons wife. After 16 years, they relocated to Barnwell Co., SC. Ruth worked at Country Cupboard for 12 years where she enjoyed serving the community. She was not ready to quit when her body chose retirement. Cancer entered her life in 2020. After being cancer free for 9 months it returned in September 2021. She valiantly fought until the end. Church was a very important part of her life. Even as her body failed her, getting to Edisto for services was a priority. She lived and planned for the moments when she had all her children and grandchildren together and is probably now planning for the heavenly reunion.

Survivors include her husband James Stover of the home; her daughters, Lucene Stover of Berlin, OH and Beverly (Brian) Weaver of Burgettstown, Pa; sons Wendell Stover of North East, PA, Conrad (Roslyn) Stover of Olar SC, Dwayne (Glenda) Stover of Olar, SC, and Wesley (Carolyn) Stover of Berlin, OH; grandchildren Jose Funez Paz, Ivana Stover, Derrick Stover, Tyler Stover, Cameron Stover, Sherri Stover, Damien Stover, Cassie Stover, Amber Stover, Kaden Stover, Shane Stover, Landon Weaver, Brock Weaver, Carter Weaver, Kacie Weaver, and Cambrie Weaver; sisters Vera Byler of Whiteville, TN and Sally (Irvin) Steiner of Richland PA; brothers Kenneth Hooley of Kingston, OH, John Hooley and Paul Hooley both of LA; brother in law Dennis Nussbaum and a number of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by parents David LeRoy and Hazel Hooley; grandparents Paul and Alta (Hochstetler) Hooley and Frank and Verna (Snyder) Shank; a son David Elroy Stover; sister Eileen Nussbaum, brother in law Harvey Byler; and a sister in law Jean Hooley.

The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, support, and care during Ruth’s illness. A special thanks to Gentiva Hospice for their professional and kind care and advice they gave us in helping to care for Mother.

Stutzman, Kurt E.
November 20, 1968 - March 6, 2023

Kurt E. Stutzman, 54, of Holmesville, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023 at his home following a ten year battle with cancer.

He was born in Millersburg on November 20, 1968 to Ward and Judy (Yoder) Stutzman and married Martha Gault on October 3, 1992 and she survives.

Kurt was a 1987 graduate of Waynedale High School and graduated from Goshen College in 1991. He was employed by the Killbuck Savings Bank as a vice president serving at the Mount Hope branch. He was the co founder of Mount Hope Charities, Inc. and had served on several boards including Save and Serve and the Holmes County Education Foundation. He was a member of Martins Creek Mennonite Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his parents of Berlin; children, Lauren (Max) Taylor of Columbus, Olivia Stutzman of Columbus and Adam Stutzman of Syracuse, NY; granddaughters, Emilia and Arizona; siblings, Hal (Shannon) Stutzman of Winesburg, Reid (Marcia) Stutzman of Berlin, Jane (Conrad) Mast of Berlin and Lisa (Merle) Yoder of Berlin.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Martins Creek Mennonite Church, 6111 County Road 203, Millersburg, with Pastor Jay Conn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 1-3:00 pm and 6-8:00 pm at the church. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling the arrangements.

Stutzman, Mary J. Hershberger
August 1, 1929 - June 6, 2023

Mary J. (Hershberger) Stutzman, 93, of Fryburg passed away peacefully at the Walnut Hills Nursing Home in the afternoon of Tuesday June 6, 2023. Mary was born on August 1, 1929 in Berlin to John J. and Sarah (Schlabach) Hershberger, the middle of 12 children. On October 16, 1949 she married John D. Stutzman who died September 17, 2014. They enjoyed life together for 64 years, 11 months and 1 day. Mary was a faithful member of the Zion Conservative Mennonite Church in Benton.

Mary had a servant heart helping others that faced health problems and cared for those who could not care for themselves. She enlarged her home to her parents caring for them. She was known for many goodies that she lovingly shared. Hospitality was one of her gifts and she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Prior to marriage she worked as a maid in many homes, and also worked at Boyd and Wurthman Restaurant.

Surviving are eight children, Grace of Fryburg, Gloria (Marlin) Beiler of Paradise, PA, Joyce (Myron) Wengerd of Heron, MT, Julia (James) Geiser of Wooster, Myron (Eileen) of Millersburg, Sara Ruth of Fryburg, John David (Carolyn) of Warsaw, and Rachel (Dan) Good of Thompson Falls, MT as well as 37 grandchildren and 94 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Ada Mae Weaver of Wooster, Erma Geiser of Kidron; brother Nevin Hershberger; sister-in-law Irene Hershberger; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ella Kauffman, Betty Beachy, Barbara Hostetler; brothers Oran, Lester, Jake, Melvin, and Paul Hershberger; son-in-law James Geiser; granddaughter, Christina (Stephen) Miller; great-grandchildren Dustin Weaver, Abigail, Kathryn & Ellianna Miller, Brielle Geiser and Jaylon Stutzman.

Friends may call at Gospel Haven Church, 6871 SR 241, Millersburg on Sunday, from 2-5 PM and on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at Gospel Haven Church on Tuesday, June 13 at 10:00 AM with Bishop Perry Yoder officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Church Cemetery.

Swartzentruber, Iva Ellen Yoder
November 1, 1925 - January 1, 2023

Iva Ellen Yoder Swartzentruber, 97, of Walnut Creek, and formerly of Winesburg, passed away at Walnut Hills Nursing Home on Sunday, January 1, 2023, after a brief illness.

She was born on November 1, 1925, in Arthur, Illinois, to the late Jacob D. and Mary Plank Yoder and married Levi G. Swartzentruber, of Winesburg, Ohio, on January 14, 1951, in Arthur, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2012.

Iva is survived by her five children and their spouses: James M. Swartzentruber (Rachel Hofstetter) of Jeromesville, OH; Velma S. (John) Stauffer of New Market, VA; Richard L. (Kelly Hochstetler) Swartzentruber of Salem, OR; Merlin D. (Vicki Alvarado) Swartzentruber of Goshen, IN; and Rose E. (Edwin) Zehr of Sugar Valley, GA; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Iva was a member of Walnut Creek Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, and was active in the Women’s Sewing Circle for many years. She was a talented seamstress and quiltmaker, and donated a number of quilts to the Ohio Mennonite Relief Sale, where several of her quilts brought the top sale price. Iva and Levi were long-time supporters of the Mennonite Relief Sales and frequently travelled across the U.S. to attend the sales in a number of different states. They also volunteered with Mennonite Disaster Service and Mennonite Central Committee’s beef canning projects for many years, and Iva accompanied Levi on one of his trips abroad to Guatemala for volunteer work with United World Mission.

A private graveside burial service was held for the immediate family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church on Saturday, May 20, 2023. The time of the service will be announced at a later date. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.spidellfuneral.com.

Swartzentruber, Katie E. Burkholder
February 10, 1958 - April 16, 2023

Katie E. Swartzentruber, 65, of 7076 Fountain Nook Road, Apple Creek, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 16, 2023 surrounded by her family.

She was born in Millersburg on February 10, 1958 to Eli and Anna (Troyer) Burkholder and on December 13, 1977 she married Albert R. Swartzentruber, he survives.

Katie was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by children, Marie (Eli) Kauffman of Wooster, Rachel (Willis) Yoder of Apple Creek, Susie (Andy) Yoder of Wooster, Nettie (Norman) Mast of Apple Creek, Levi (Rachel) Swartzentruber of Apple Creek, Mervin (Katie) Swartzentruber of Fredericksburg, Atlee (Lori) Swartzentruber of Apple Creek, Leah (Paul) Mast of the home, and Nelson Swartzentruber of the home; 49 grandchildren; her mother, Anna Burkholder of Millersburg; siblings, Atlee Burkholder of Apple Creek, Fannie (Dan) Miller of Fredericksburg, Edna (Melvin) Yoder of Millersburg, Roy (Edna) Burkholder of Sugarcreek, Emma (Albert) Yoder of Fresno, Marie (Eli) Hershberger of Millersburg, Jonas (Fannie Mae) Burkholder of Sugarcreek, and Ivan (Lena) Burkholder of Millersburg.

She was preceded in death by her father, Eli Burkholder; in-laws, Raymond and Susie Swartzentruber; and sister-in-law, Lydia Ann Burkholder.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 9:30 am at the family residence with Bishop Eli Stutzman officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery. Friends may call anytime on Monday or Tuesday at the family residence. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling the arrangements.

Swartzentruber, Linford L.
October 13, 1944 - December 21, 2023

Linford L. Swartzentruber, 79, of Shoemakersville, PA passed away at his home on December 21st 2023. He was the husband of JoAnne Detweiler Swartzentruber. On October 19th, they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Born in Greenwood, DE on October 13, 1944, he was the son of the late Mark E. and Ella Yoder Swartzentruber.

He was a current member of the Crossway Mennonite Fellowship, Bird-In-Hand PA. From 1966-1968, he served in Costa Rica, doing volunteer service work under the Rosedale Mennonite Mission. From 1973-1978, he and his family were missionaries in Guatemala under the Mennonite Messianic Mission. He worked for Shank Door Company in Myerstown, and truck farmed for several years. In 1988, he started Green Acres Lawn Furniture in Whitehall, PA and in 2017, he sold the last of his business shares to his son Carl.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Carl R. of Auburn, PA, Conrad M. of Ephrata, PA, Curvin L. of Fleetwood, PA, Cleon L. of Shoemakersville, PA, Clair L. of Kenai, AK and Clayton P. of Myerstown, PA; his daughter Caryn J. Hales of Leola PA; brothers Marlin and Roger Swartzentruber; sisters Daisy Miller, Goldie Fretz and Verla Byler; and twenty-eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four grandchildren, his brother Duane and sister Glenda Byler.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 28th at St. Michael's Church, 529 St. Michael's Rd., Hamburg. The viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 27th from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at the church. Interment will follow the service in the adjoining church cemetery.
